Success Story: USDA Food Safety Inspection Service [TOP] |
Situation
The US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation's food supply, including developing robust processing plant Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans. Educating small meat and poultry processing plants on HACCP plans has historical been a challenge. FSIS decided to work with Kadix to leverage eLearning technology to improve HACCP plan quality and overall compliance across processing plants.
Kadix Solution:
- Rather than develop a traditional eLearning course Kadix worked with the customer to design an electronic performance support tool that would gather and specifically address the substantive issues of each processing plant's HACCP compliance. Thus, saving time and reducing the amount of interpretation required of the user
- Kadix developed a technology-based performance/knowledge management support tool that guides users through each step of the HACCP plan development process. Interactive screens, context-sensitive links to expert examples, questions to consider, and other support information are key components that ensure the user has the necessary information and resources to develop a sound HACCP plan. The result is plants are better able to handle and produce products which meet the USDA standards.
- Assisted small and very small plant owners in creating sound HACCP plans, which increases user understanding, improves plant performance and compliance with federal regulations and FSIS policy, and reduces costs associated with monitoring and correcting non-compliance
- Increased FSIS control of information disseminated about HACCP plans, resulting in more consistent communication and increased compliance with federal regulations and FSIS policy
-
Improved relationships between small and very small plant owners and FSIS
through this outreach activity
